An adventure among the mountains and water: this will get your heart racing!
The national tourist route between Geiranger and Trollstigen offers a wealth of hiking opportunities in an adventure-packed mountain and fjord landscape. A great, but particularly steep tour can be found on the route to the picturesque Skageflå farm, which takes you out onto the Geirangerfjord by boat. It is one of Norway’s most spectacular fjords, and in 2005, it was awarded UNESCO World Heritage status. The 15-kilometre-long route is dotted with majestic, snow-capped mountains – a breathtaking landscape formed over multiple ice ages. The route from Trollstigen up to Lake Bispevatnet is perfect for a peaceful hike in the shadow of the imposing mountains. At the feet of Trollstigen, you can enjoy a straightforward round trip alongside the roaring river.
Where legends live: the magical world of waterfalls
If you take a ferry across the fjord, you can get a closer look at the famous Dei Sju Systre (The Seven Sisters), Friaren (Suitor) and Brudesløret (Wedding Veil) waterfalls, while also experiencing the world’s most famous fjord; the Geiranger Fjord. The Seven Sisters, which flow majestically down into the fjord over a height of 250 metres, are fascinating to watch, especially when they reach their full splendour as the snow melts between May and July. The Suitor is located on the opposite side of the fjord. Its shape is reminiscent of a bottle, and the waterfall is steeped in myth, telling a story of unrequited love. The Wedding Veil, another impressive waterfall, falls gently into the fjord, complementing the rest of the spectacular panoramic view that you can enjoy on your boat trip.
Natural beauty and adventure: discover the highlights around Geiranger
The view from Ørnesvingen, the famous Eagle Road, offers a spectacular view of the Geiranger Fjord and its surrounding landscape that will stop every visitor in their tracks. Another impressive stop along the route is Gudbrandsjuvet, a deep ravine formed by the Valldøla river, which is perfect for exploring and taking photos. There is also the idyllic village of Valldal, where you can enjoy delicious strawberries and a wide range of activities, such as kayaking, rafting, and a climbing park, making it the perfect destination for families and adventure-seekers.
