Explore Lake Walchen, Lake Kochel and Plansee by motorbike
Experience details
The motorcycling tour through Upper Bavaria begins
Your tour starts in Lenggries at the local authorised BMW Motorrad retailer Martin. From there, the route heads towards Lake Walchen via the village of Jachenau, where you will need to stop at a toll booth. Toll fees also include parking at Lake Walchen. There are plenty of benches on the shores of the lake, inviting you to stop for a short break, take in the great view and also go for a short dip in Lake Walchen to cool down. Following the trip along this Upper Bavarian lake, the tour heads to a well-known place of pilgrimage for motorcyclists, Kesselberg. The former race track offers lots of riding pleasure. After a detour to Lake Kochel in Upper Bavaria, we head west towards Linderhof via Moosrein and Unterammergau. Linderhofstrasse, a road through the woods, is particularly fun to ride along. This is another good opportunity to switch off the engine and enjoy a short break.
Discover Bavarian culture and Upper Bavarian lakes on motorcycles
If you haven't heard of Linderhof Palace yet, you can broaden your cultural knowledge and take a look at the former home of Bavarian King Ludwig II. From the palace, you can ride through Ettaler Forst and across the Austrian border to Lake Plansee. Guaranteed riding pleasure! The beautiful, clear lake invites you to take a photo and mark this extraordinary occasion. After having set off from Lake Plansee, the route continues through Bichlbach and Ehrwald and onwards to Kesselberg via Garmisch-Partenkirchen. This time, however, you won't be following the road towards Lake Walchen, but head east towards Sylvenstein Dam. A toll road runs through the nature reserve. We recommend going easy on the accelerator so you can make the most of the view of the river Isar and the Karwendel mountain range, an area of outstanding natural beauty.
Highlight for motorcyclists and delicious, home-cooked food
Once you’ve reached Vorderriss, Risstaler Landstrasse country road will take you to Hinterriss. Here you will come across another toll road, which, however, is a dead end. Tours involving turning around and heading back up the way you came initially don't sound that exciting to motorcyclists. However, anyone who has travelled along this road once will realise why this section has been included in the motorcycling tour through Upper Bavaria. It is one of the highlights of your tour. Oswaldhütte chalet is located directly on your way back: a rustic chalet with a beautiful terrace and a view of the countryside – a popular place for motorcyclists to stop and take a break. Freshly cooked delicacies are served here in a welcoming ambience. From Vorderriss, you then head off to Sylvenstein Dam, which you cross via a bridge. The route then takes you along the banks of the river Isar back to Lenggries to authorised BMW Motorrad retailer Martin.
