Cape Town in all of its glory
After you have arrived at the airport in Cape Town, you will be taken straight to the hotel by the tour operator. After a relaxing break and a bite to eat, you will be given a detailed introduction to the planned route in the afternoon. You will also have the opportunity to get to know the other participants on the tour. After that, there is a city tour of Cape Town on the itinerary, followed by a leisurely dinner at a local restaurant.
The second day marks the start of your motorcycling adventure! After a filling breakfast, you set off in the direction of False Bay. You’ll make a quick stop in Simon’s Town to marvel at the penguins on Boulders Beach. After a short ride to the Cape of Good Hope, you will have time to take a quick break and enjoy a snack before making your way to Scarborough, Kommetjie, and Noordhoek. Riding along Chapman’s Peak Drive, the world-famous coastal road, will give you a breathtaking view of the ocean, before you return to the hotel in the late afternoon.
Vineyards and unique mountain passes
The third day takes you northwards past stunning vineyards to reach Wellington, and from there, you will take Bain’s Kloof Pass towards the small city of Wolseley. The destination for today’s stage is only a few kilometres away; the special city of Tulbagh. After being largely destroyed by an earthquake, the community decided to rebuild this unique town. After your arrival, you will have plenty of time to explore the various corners of the city.
On the fourth day, you can take in the view of the rocky landscape while riding along the Nuwe Kloof Pass. When changing onto Piekenierskloof Pass, you will notice that the surroundings are drastically different, and can enjoy an endless view over the region’s vast fields. You’ll turn off to the right in Vanrhynsdorp, to ride a further 100 km before reaching your destination for the day: the city of Calvinia, which is located right in the Hantam Mountains, offering a breathtaking view of the spring blossoms between August and October.
From the river to the desert
The fifth day has a lot in store for you! After enjoying a filling breakfast, you will first ride to Brandvlei, and then continue northwards, before crossing one of the longest and most spectacular rivers in South Africa, just before the small city of Keimos. One highlight of this stage of the tour is a visit to the impressive Augrabies Falls, a waterfall with a drop of approx. 50 m. After this experience, you will continue on to Upington, where you will check in to the guesthouse for the night. Here, you can take stock of the day while enjoying a view of the neighbouring Orange River.
On the sixth day, you will wake up in Upington – the unofficial capital of the Kalahari Desert – and make your way to Fish River Canyon in Namibia. To get there, you will cross the border at Nakop and have the unique opportunity to ride through the desert for the final stage of the day’s tour. However, that’s not the only highlight: once you've arrived at your destination, you can get your first peek at the second-largest canyon in the world. With a ravine that’s 550 m deep and 160 km long, Fish River Canyon runs through the Koubis massif and offers spectacular views.
The breathtaking Fish River Canyon
On the seventh day, you can look forward to experiencing an unparalleled landscape. The northern viewpoint of the canyon gives you a view of the over 100-km-long ravine and rock formations, which you can observe while riding along the eastern edge of the canyon towards the south. In the early evening, you will arrive at Naries Guestfarm in Springbok, where the owner Denese will serve you a delicious evening meal. Then, her husband Johann will drive you to the viewpoint on the farm, where you can enjoy a spectacular sunset.
By the eighth day, you’ll be more than ready for a rest day. Put your feet up by the swimming pool, or explore the area around Naries Guestfarm. If you’d rather partake in an activity, there is a wide range of options: you can visit the diamond mine at Kleinzee, go on a shipwreck tour along the western coast, or explore the Richtersveld National Park. You could even book a sundowner safari, after which you can enjoy a delicious evening meal and reflect on the day you’ve had.
Back to the coast
On the ninth day, you will bid farewell to the inland region, because the South African coast awaits you. Further south, you will ride through places like Kamieskron and Garies, travelling approx. 400 km before reaching the fishing port of Lambert’s Bay. After a long ride, you can enjoy some freshly caught fish or a stroll along the harbour, while soaking up the city’s atmosphere.
The last day has arrived, and the final stage of your trip will take you back to Cape Town. Follow the coast, riding along small side streets through charming coastal towns before reaching the capital of South Africa. Here, you will return your motorcycle and be taken to the airport on a shuttle bus so that you can board your flight home. You can either luxuriate in the memories of this fantastic trip on your flight home, or you can choose to spend another few days on your own in this unique country packed with spectacular culture and landscapes.
Enjoy the thrills of this extraordinary country in all of its wonder on a ten-day trip.
